A DEDICATED PROGRAM FOR BIOSECURITY

We ensure full coverage of Norwegian and Icelandic salmon farming areas with our vessels to ensure a regular pick up of ensiled fish. Our vessels establish a close connection with farms to define a frequency of collection. When an urgent intervention is required, when a health issue constitutes a threat, it is necessary to deploy a quick response to protect the farm’s biomass.

We always prioritize emergency operations and use state of the art stunning and control systems, licensed by Norwegian Authorities. Each year we contribute to the production of more than 128 GWh - enough to power  8600 homes.
BIOSECURE COLLECTION OF CATEGORY 2 SILAGE
When ScanBio collects category 2 silage from farms, we have biosecurity as our highest priority. All vessels and equipment are washed and disinfected after each mission. Collection takes place quickly and efficiently to minimize exposure time and ensure good fish health. All personnel are trained in safe procedures and handling of heavy equipment.
SAFE DELIVERY OF ACID
ScanBio provides safe and reliable delivery of acid to aquaculture facilities. The acid is stored locally and added to the grinded fish waste for preservation. This ensures that the waste remains liquid and can easily be pumped on board our vessels. Strict safety procedures are always followed to prevent incorrect handling with potentially serious consequences.
EMERGENCY: GRINDING DIRECT FROM CAGE
In the event of mass mortality, ScanBio immediately sends emergency vessels with the capacity to grind large quantities of dead fish directly from the cages. The fish is pumped up from the bottom, grinded and immediately ensiled on board to prevent loss of resources.
24/7 EMERGENCY SUPPORT AND EMERGENCY SERVICE
ScanBio offers 24/7 emergency response for aquaculture facilities along the entire Norwegian coast and Iceland. Our vessels are equipped with powerful pumping systems, grinders and underwater cameras, manned by specialized personnel. In the event of mass mortality, we can mobilize vessels within a few days to ensure efficient handling of the biomass.
TRAINING IN SILAGE ROUTINES
ScanBio offers tailored courses in silage and safe handling of dead fish. Our experts adapt the training as needed - from basic courses to technical security workshops. With over 30 years of experience, we ensure that resources are not wasted, but are returned to the natural cycle.
EMERGENCY HARVESTING ONBOARD MOBILE HARVESTING PLANTS
In the event of an outbreak of disease in an otherwise healthy population, ScanBio can quickly mobilize an emergency vessel with an integrated stunning and slaughter line. Our vessels are approved as mobile slaughter facilities by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and ensure fast and proper slaughtering directly from the cages.
